We are taking on a sponsored 10km walk on Wednesday 9th September to raise funds for advice charities in Reading.
Our team is: Francesca Neil, Eleanor White-Andrews, Memoonah Murtaza, Joe Johnston, Helen Greenwood, Jasbinder Dail, Stuart Duncan and Abigail Kabutey.
In 2025, 7.1 million low-income households (60%) were going without essential goods, including 4.1 million experiencing food insecurity in the previous 30 days. Further, 4.4 million low- income households (37%) were behind on at least one bill or credit commitment in May 2025.
With the continuous rise in the cost of living, your support has become ever more vital. The money raised by our Walk is essential to supporting our local advice charities so that they can continue providing their life-changing free legal advice services to people like Chelsey.
Chelsey’s Story
After her mother’s death, Chelsey faced significant challenges when her local council required her to move from her family home into a flat and had to switch from ESA to Universal Credit to receive housing support, increasing her financial strain and council tax liability. Struggling emotionally and financially, she turned to a local Citizens Advice, who eased the burden by assisting with paperwork and providing much-needed support.
Chelsey described the support as a relief, particularly given her anxiety, and emphasized the emotional toll of the experience.
Every step we take and every penny we raise brings us closer to a community where justice and support are accessible to all.
